■ Global Communication go Back in the Box（RA）

The duo officially announced their return last year when it was revealed they would reform to play at ADE and a string of subsequent live shows, with the promise of new music to follow. Although the latter is yet to materialize, what we do have is a double disc Back in the Box mix for NRK, their first such offering since 2005's contribution to the fabric mix series.

1997年に最後のシングル「The Groove」をリリースした後に鳴りを潜め、2005年に唐突にMixCD「Fabric 26」をリリース、そしてMark Pritchardがシドニーに移住して以降は別々に音楽活動していた2人が、再びタッグを組んでGlobal Communicationの名前を再始動させます。

活動再開の第一弾ということで、「Back in the Box」という2枚組MixCDをリリースします。トラックリストは以下のとおり。

この「Back in the Box」は、80-90年代のハウスクラシックを中心にとしたMixCDシリーズの最新作で、これまでにはJoey NegroやLouie Vegaが選曲したCDがリリースされています。今回のGlobal Communicationのミックスは、デトロイト寄りの90年代テクノが中心。「この曲が入ってるMixCDが悪い内容なわけが無い！」という曲がズラリと並んでいます。

すでに昨年末にオランダでライブ（DJ？）を一度やっていて（アンビエントセットとダンスセットの2ステージを披露）、2011年はバルセロナでのSonarへの出演も決まっています。嬉しいことに新曲を制作する予定もあるそうです。

それぞれ個別の活動も継続中です。Mark PritchardはSteve SpacekとのダブステップなコラボレーションAfrica HiTech名義でのアルバム「93 Million Miles」がリリース間近、Tom Middletonはシングル「Gliding」の他に、50曲を越えるアンソロジーを発表する予定があることも告知されています。

2011年6月17日にロンドンで開催された「76:14 Recreation Live」と題されたGlobal Communicationのライブの動画がいくつかYouTubeにあったので貼っておきます。

この"Recreation"ライブは「76:14」全曲を丸々76分間再現演奏するという趣向のものではなかったそうで、リミックスされた「76:14」の曲やアルバム以外の古い曲の混ざったライブだったとのことです。ぜひ日本でもやっていただきたい。
